Summer Reading 2015

I chose two books for my summer reading assignment;

Image result for the jewelThe Jewel by Amy Ewing is a young adult (YA) dystopian fantasy novel. Our main character Violet is born in the Marsh (kind of like a district like in the Hunger games), a poor area where, there's been this mutation among some of  the women there. They can control color, shape and growth. It doesn't show up until later (like ten years old) and this mutation is useful for wives that live in the upper class, the jewel. They cannot reproduce and the girls that have these gifts are auctioned off to them and become surrogates. They carry the rich women's babies and using their gifts make them look and have the personalities that the mothers desire. In return they get to live in luxury, but truly they have no choice in the matter and are taken away from their family, which they never see again. The worst part is, they never get a life of their own; falling in love, making a family, etc.
Because all  surrogates die after labor.
The Jewel is very stimulating and I wasn't able to put it down.

Attachments by Rainbow Rowell is a young adult (YA) novel about a guy named Lincoln who works a The Courier, a newspaper. He's the IT guy and one of his jobs is checking the mail of the employees to make sure they follow the rules. While reading, he stumbles upon the mail of two female employees; Jennifer and Beth. He finds their emails so interesting that he doesn't report them and even though he knows it's wrong, he keeps reading their mail.Before he knows it he's become interested in one of them, Beth and he falls in love. He wants to talk to her, to approach her, but how can he when he's already read so much and found out so much about her.
Attachments is very funny and fresh. All the truths of life, it's easy to connect to.
